Discover Transylvanian Rugs

Stefano Ionescu, author of the seminal Antique Ottoman Rugs in Transylvania, is leading a tour from Bucharest to Budapest in May 2008 featuring the local museums and churches that hold the regions preserved Ottoman rugs.

From his website:

The tour starts in Bucharest, crosses Transylvania and reaches Budapest. Participants will see almost 300 Ottoman rugs preserved in the Lutheran Churches and the Museums of the region. They will have a chance to meet Lutheran pastors, collectors, museum curators, scholars and artisans and will visit some of the major attractions of the region: fortified churches, palaces, castles, medieval towns and uncontaminated nature. The programme is intense but well balanced, avoiding tiresome journeys. Hotels and restaurants have been chosen with particular care, in an attempt to escape globalisation.
