ICOC and the TMA/SC

We are only a few weeks away from the 12th International Conference on Oriental Carpets and it's not too late to register! If you cannot make it to Stockholm next month (and sadly, we cannot) you can live vicariously and reminisce about past conferences with these official ICOC publications.

If you live in the Los Angeles area we urge you to consider joining the Textile Museum Associates of Southern California, a non-profit organization that presents monthly educational programs, discussions, field trips, and special events focused on handmade textiles, weavings, Oriental carpets and costumes from around the world. Chuvals and Ikats and Tuducs, Oh My!

¡Feliz Día de los Muertos! The San Francisco Antique Rug and Textile Show was an unqualified success. It had been reported that attendance was down from last year but I saw the opposite. It was a rare moment that someone wasn't poking around our shelves and making piles of books. On the contrary, attendance was good and sales were certainly up. There were many new faces drawn by world-class dealers as well as the "bargain room", appraisal days, and beginners' lectures. It was great to meet many of you in the flesh and I hope to see you next year!

The SF show was held concurrently with San Francisco Tribal's wonderful annual exhibition as well as other exhibitions around the Bay Area including Thomas Cole's Ancient Imprints: Turkmen Textile Art which is ongoing. We are selling Tom's catalog for $30.

Washington D.C. was the other epicenter of the rug world that weekend. We would like to congratulate a couple of Brits, Hali Magazine's Executive Editor Danny Shaffer who was presented with the Joseph V. McMullan Award as well as Michael Franses who took home the George Hewitt Myers Award. Both were given for their decades of contributions to the study of Oriental rugs and both have been and remain instrumental in the publication of Oriental rug literature.

That weekend was also the opening of Colors of the Oasis: Central Asian Ikats from the stunning Murad Megalli collection at The Textile Museum. Both a hardback and paperback catalog were produced and you can find them here. We continue to offer free shipping in the United States and are paying the sales tax for California residents.
