Anostazija Tamosaitiene and Antanas Tamosaitis LITHUANIAN SASHES Lithuanian Folk Art Institute Toronto 1988 Hundreds of Color and Black and White illustrations 316 pp. 8.5 x 11 Hardback in dustjacket in Very Good condition. Deaccessioned from a museum research library with usual markings "Lithuanian Sashes is an academic work complete with bibliography, index and symbol keys for various sash motifs. As part of their documentation for the book, the authors closely examined several thousand ancient thousand were reproduced in the book, for the greater part in the original colour. To date this is the only existing book about sashes in English. In writing the book the authors explored various sources as well as closely studying numerous sashes they had brought with them from Lithuania. Extensive use was made of drawings of sash motifs, photographs, sash motif albums, newspaper articles as well as periodicals specifically devoted to sashes. In ancient Lithuania, a sash constituted a symbolic gift, especially at weddings. The tradition of sash weaving has been preserved to this present day, not only in Lithuania but in all countries where Lithuanian families have established themselves." $60.00

Battini, Chiara with Paola Barbetti, Alberto Boralevi, Alberto Levi, Elena Tzareva FILIKLI: ANATOLIA XX CENTURY: MORESCHINI COLLECTION Angelo Pontecorboli Editore Firenze 2009 55 Color Plates 80 pp. 8.75 x 8.75 Paperback in As New condition The Filikli is an Anatolian long hair rug, extremely soft, usually monochrome and mostly without any pattern. The colour palette is ample but the colour red dominates the scene and it appears in numerous hue variations that, as in a mirror effect, enhance its potential. In fact, the colour red towers over many a form of tribal art. From the scarce literature available the Filikli is almost always numbered among the Anatolian Tulus as one of the possible variations. Furthermore, oftentimes, it is confused with similar weaves such as the Perdes or the Zakatalas. Yet, the group of Filiklis exhibits homogeneous aesthetic and structural elements that belong neither to the Tulus nor to other similar weavings. Thus, we should consider the Filikli an object on its own, give it back the right of citizenship, a personality and a life of its own. These are the stakes. The Florentine Collection of Giuseppe Moreschini’s Filiklis consists of a singular number of high quality pieces in a unique chromatic variety; specimens so pure to embody the essence of the Filikli and others extremely significant to underline the connection between the Filikli and other similar rugs. So, this Collection allows us to identify the objective qualities specific to the Filikli, to outline the criteria for its authenticity, to try and ascertain its anthropological value and, once sheltered from any identity theft, it can help work out the relationship between what a Filikli is and what it is not: Tulu, Perde, Zakatala, etc." -Publisher $75.00
